A daughter of noted graphic artist Sheouak Parr, who was one of the first woman to participate in the early drawing projects in the 1950's, Mayureak grew up traditionally on the land. She began carving and drawing in the 1960's. In 1996, after the death o her partner (Qaqaq Ashoona), Mayureak moved back to Cape Dorset from their outcamp and began to draw larger and more personal works.
In 2003, she was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy.
